NOTE: CN/CF?
THE 250CC ENGINES IN OUR BUGGIES WERE CLONED OR BASED FROM THE HONDA HELIX SCOOTER (LIQUID COOLED, 250CC, CVT, VERTICAL CYLINDER BASED ENGINE)
THE DESIGNATION OF THE HELIX WAS CN250. THIS MOTOR WAS LIKE THE OLD SCHOOL GY6 ENGINES IN THAT TO ACQUIRE REVERSE IT HAD TO HAVE AND EXTERNAL REVERSE BOX. SO IF YOUR BUGGY HAS AN EXTERNAL REVERSE MECHANISM MOUNTED ON THE OUTPUT SHAFT OF THE ENGINE OR IS MATED TO A SEPARATE GEARBOX AT THE OUTPUT SHAFT THEN IT IS TRULY A CN250 CLONE. THEN WHAT IS A CF?……..THE CF250 BASICALLY WAS HANDED A “MADE UP” DESIGNATION BY PEOPLE WHO FREQUENT BUGGY FORUMS AND SUCH. THESE ENGINES WERE MAINLY AVAILABLE IN THE LAST GENERATION OF HAMMERHEAD 250’S AND JOYNER SV250’S. THE MOTORS FOR THESE BUGGIES WERE MANUFACTURED BY CF MOTO, A CHINESE COMPANY THAT BUILDS ENGINES AND ARE NOW MAKING A MARK IN THE ATV/UTV MARKET. NOW CF MOTO ALSO BUILDS CN250 CLONE ENGINES SO “CF” IS NOT NECESSARILY THE TYPE OF ENGINE BUT THE MAKERS OF THE ENGINE. THE ENGINES IN THE BUGGIES BASICALLY HAG IN BIG LETTERS ON THE CVT COVER “CF MOTO”. SO FORUM MEMBERS TO DIFFERENTIATE THE 250’S WOULD CALL IT A CF250……….BUT WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE? JUST THE TRANSMISSION PORTION!
THE “CF” VERSION HAS A TRANNY WITH H/L/N/R INCORPORATED INTO THE ENGINE. THERE IS NO NEED FOR AN EXTERNAL REVERSE OR GEAR BOX. THE ENGINE CASES AT THE BACK OF THE MOTOR ARE DIFFERENT, THE VARIATORS ARE THE SAME BUT THE CLUTCH ON THE CF IS LARGER THEN THAT ON THE CN…… BUT ASIDE FROM THAT THE 2 MOTORS SHARE THE SAME ELECTRONICS, HEADS, CYLINDERS, STARTERS AND OTHER PARTS.
SADLY BY 2013 250CC BUGGIES BECAME EXTINCT BECAUSE THE ENGINE PLATFORM CEASED TO PASS U.S. EPA STANDARDS.
